what I know, Mr. Rayus, ..., Sir, ..., I am able to tell that whenever this school is
brought to mind, your thoughts will always show your heart is in the right place;
and, as this is true, you are definitely the correct person to be the Principal who
is now here at this school, to be performing the actions of the present Principal."
Seeing Mr. Rayus scoot back in his chair and wiggle about to get comfortable,
Mr. Fixit is able to tell that Mr. Rayus feels good about the words he has just
heard, so Mr. Fixit asks Mr. Rayus, "Hey, I know the day is ending soon, but
may I have a moment to tell you what I figured out about 'wondering?'"
Fully enjoying this friendly moment with Mr. Fixit, and knowing that Mr. Fixit
is good at figuring things out, Mr. Rayus answers, "Of course, go on. In fact,
hearing you size it up would be, ..., ha-ha, ..., ahhh, ..., simply wonderful."
Mr. Fixit begins to explain his figuring, saying, "Well, to begin with, seeing that
we are here at school, what I figured out is really about spelling the word won-
der and that maybe we could spell this word in another way that makes sense."
"Yes," says Mr. Rayus, "I have learned that, from the beginning of writing, every
writer thinks to write out the sound of a word in a definite way. A definite spell-
ing helps the reader make sense of the word sound in the right way; ..., uh~mm,
like now, as the spellings of: 'r-i-g-h-t,' and: 'w-r-i-t-e,' are said as the same word
sound; but the separate spellings show that this word goes to seperate definitions."
